The Great Wave Off Kanagawa

A wave of art came over stage 2!

Year 3 and 4 have been learning about our neighbouring countries in history and geography. This inspired us to look into artists and artworks from Asia. 'The Great Wave Off Kanagawa' is an artwork created by Katsushika Hokusai in the 1800’s (WOWWW!!) and was the artwork we used as inspiration to create our very own waves.

The students used acrylic paint on paper for the wave, and food dye added to water to gently wash the background.

Prior to starting our artworks, we learned how artists used elements of art to create the principles of design. For this artwork we focused primarily on emphasis, texture, movement and scale and proportion. Can you see them in our artworks???
