Student opportunities and activities

At Marie Bashir Public School, we offer a variety of programs in the classroom and across the school to help students build new skills, make friends and explore new interests.

Our programs may include:

• school sport, athletics and inter-school competitions such as PSSA
• creative and performing arts groups and showcases

• lunchtime and interest-based clubs
• student leadership opportunities such as the Student Representative Council

Our extra-curricular highlights

Music

At Marie Bashir Public School, our specialist music teachers work with students weekly. Whether it's singing, the recorder, violin or the ukelele, students K-6 are taught to listen to and perform music. Students also have the opportunity to join our school orchestra, choirs and strings or recorder ensembles.

Visual arts

Our visual and digital art programs help students be creative and express themselves. In the visual arts studio, our artist in residence, Mr. Matthews offers students innovative learning experiences for 5x 90 minute sessions per term where students have the opportunity to work with a variety of mediums and art styles.

Sport

There are many opportunities for students to participate in sports. We host a variety of carnivals such as swimming, cross country and athletics for older and younger students alike. Students may wish to try out for the PSSA (Primary Schools Sports Association) junior and senior teams to verse other schools in the local area.

Debating and public speaking

Students develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking. Every child in our school is given the chance to compete in local and state events through our public speaking competitions.

Incursions and excursions

Students often enjoy learning outside of the classroom to explore and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and connect their learning to the world around them. Not to mention, it always so much fun!
