 Dear Parents/Carers,

Marie Bashir Public School will be starting the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program on Monday 18th March. This program will allow Stage 3 students to bring their own personal devices to school each week. Students will not be allowed to bring their devices on Fridays. These devices will be used at the direction of the classroom teacher for activities linked to class learning programs.

Equity:

Marie Bashir Public School is dedicated to promoting equity. This program is not compulsory. To provide for students that do not have access to a device from home, the school has a bank of iPads and laptops that can also be accessed.

Security:

Upon arriving at school, students are not permitted to use their device on school grounds in the morning before 9:25am. Students must leave their devices inside their school bags and are advised not to leave their bag unattended in the morning. At the beginning of the school day, students will ‘sign in’ their device on their classroom device register. To ensure the security of devices during breaks, they will be placed in lockable store rooms inside classrooms. These storerooms, as well as classroom doors, will be locked at recess and lunch and no student access will be permitted. At the end of the school day, students will ‘sign out’ their device. Devices will not be allowed to be left at school.

Batteries:

It will be the student’s responsibility to ensure their device is charged and ready to use at the beginning of the school day. There is no capacity for charging devices at school.

Discipline:

The School Discipline Policy will be adhered to at all times, particularly when devices are being used in the classroom. Should students be found to be off task, or using their device in a way breaks the ‘BYOD Parent and Student User Agreement’, they will lose their privileges and may be banned from using their device at school and/or disciplinary action.

IF PARTICIPATING, STUDENTS MUST BRING THE ‘BYOD PARENT AND STUDENT USER AGREEMENT’ BACK TO SCHOOL BEFORE MONDAY 18th MARCH. Please discuss and sign the agreement with your child.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
